What is Toutiao?
Toutiao, also called Jinri Toutiao or 'Today's Headlines', is ByteDance's Chinese content-discovery platform. ByteDance's official product directory describes a personalized experience across subjects ranging from sports and entertainment to agriculture and history. That breadth is important: the product is not simply a financial news wire or a single newsroom.
How does personalized discovery change what readers see?
A personalized news aggregator is a useful starting comparison, but the product's exact recommendation rules belong to Toutiao. An individual user's feed and a public hot list are different surfaces. A topic appearing prominently in one feed cannot establish that it was shown equally to all readers.

Who is the actual source of an item?
Content can be encountered through publisher and creator identities. Check the account and article attribution rather than treating the platform as the author of everything it distributes. Separate original reporting, commentary, and a summary quoting another publication. When several posts repeat one statement, follow that statement to its origin.
How should you assess a trending headline?
Read the article's date, event date, and cited evidence. Personalized discovery can surface older material relevant to an interest; collection time alone does not establish recency. A compelling title may state an author's conclusion rather than a demonstrated fact. Preserve qualifiers and attribution in English instead of making the claim stronger.
Can guests read Toutiao?
Many public articles can be read without an account, while app, interaction, and visitor requirements vary. The homepage requested JavaScript in our October 10 HTTP check; that is not proof of a universal account requirement. Use the original article for substance and ThreadEast's source status for collection freshness.

A first or last observed time describes our collection, not the event or article publication date. Rank and source metrics remain specific to that list. We do not provide source-platform accounts or full translation of every article, answer, or video.
