Average salary rankings for 31 provinces released: Who leads, and who has the strongest momentum?
The reader’s brief
Before comparing an offer with an average salary headline, match the data year, employer category, region and job context. Record annual gross pay and bonuses separately from deductions. Dividing an annual mean by twelve gives an arithmetic equivalent, not a normal monthly payslip. The paired guide supplies a reusable comparison template.
Caijing's provincial wage comparison on Tencent News, displayed as published October 27 at 20:04 China Standard Time, discusses 2025 wage data. We checked its national figures against the NBS May 15, 2026 release: urban non-private unit employees averaged CNY 129,441 annually, versus CNY 71,590 for private unit employees. The corresponding nominal growth rates were 4.3% and 3.0%. These are gross annual means for different employer populations, not median monthly take-home pay. The survey covers urban legal entities with at least five employees and excludes individual businesses and freelancers. Non-private includes more than government and state-owned employers. We read the media account and the NBS table and definitions; we did not independently extract every provincial yearbook value, estimate a median or verify the article's causal explanations.
